I took these photographs on January 12, 2011- a year after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake took the lives of several hundred thousand Haitians in and around the capital city of Port au Prince. One year later, I was impressed with how much progress had been made in cleaning up the downtown area, relative to the destruction, that is. There are still over a million Haitians living in Internally Displaced Persons camps. This, in my opinion, is the biggest challenge facing the rebuilding of the country.
This photograph was taken in Port au Prince at 4:53 p.m.- the exact minute the earthquake struck one year prior.
Titanyen, outside of Port au Prince, is the site of many mass graves after the earthquake.
